LAHORE, NOV. 2018: The Medical Affairs team recently held a daylong medication safety workshop at the Grand Palm Hotel in Lahore. The workshop was attended by over 120 pharmacists, doctors and nurses from leading institutions of Lahore including Ghurki Trust Hospital, Hameed Latif Hospital, Lahore General Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Ghulab Devi Hospital, Ittefaq Hospital, Shiekh Zayed Hospital and National Defence Hospital. The objective of the workshop was to engage stakeholders by creating a deeper awareness around the topic of medication safety.
Omar Akhlaq Bhutta from the Department of Pharmaceutical Services and Shoaib Shammas, Senior Pharmacist from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre were the speakers who broadly covered a wide range of topics including system-based medication error analysis, developing error-reduction strategies around the use of high-alert medications, utilizing various data collection methods to identify medication risk, identification of human error, at-risk behavior, and reckless behaviors from case studies and describing change management principles applicable to medication safety.
Participants appreciated the initiative in the wake of changing health industry dynamics where rational and safe medication is becoming increasingly important topics. It helped them learn to look at their organizations through the eyes of the world’s leading safety experts and regulatory agencies, focusing efforts on medication-related issues that impact patient safety. The workshop also offered a valuable platform to network with other practitioners to solve problems safely and sharing learning.
